Support Patient Access to Timely Cancer Treatment

  • ASCO strongly supports the Restoring the Patient's Voice Act, bipartisan legislation introduced in the U.S. House that would limit a payer’s ability to require fail first protocols
  • Advancements in the diagnosis of cancer allow oncologists to determine the best treatment approach for each individual patient
  • Many health plans require patients to try and fail medications chosen by the plan before they will cover the medication originally prescribed by their health care provider

  • HR 2207 was introduced by Representatives Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) and Raul Ruiz (D-CA)
  • The 78 current Cosponsors can be found here:
  • Senate companion legislation has yet to be introduced
  • Ask your lawmaker to cosponsor the Restoring the Patients Voice Act of 2017 (H.R. 2207), which would require  group health plans to establish an exception to step therapy protocols in specified cases
